Edenvale is a small rest home and hospital in a quiet street in Mt Eden. For me this has been a special project, I was excited to create with a sense of purpose beyond that of a private garden.
Most importantly the garden was designed to create a place for the residents and their families; a space to move easily through, enjoy memories provoked by colour and scent in the perennial garden, or to rest under the pergola in the restorative environment of the native garden. The garden also provides a pleasant street front for the local community, which has transformed the presentation of the rest home
Employing our philosophy at Sanctuary landscapes the design has a strong focus on native species with the integration of appropriate exotic species for enhanced colour and larger floral palette. Many of the native species planted in the garden are declining or endangered in their natural habitats and are rarely cultivated. There are more than 60 native species carefully planted in the garden [along with our smaller selection of exotics] and this association of plants contributes to the health of the garden as a whole. The garden is now in it’s third year after planting and is thriving.
